The fruit of a climbing annual vine in the cucumber family. It is round or oval with a hard, thick, slightly rough, yellow, orange or green inedible skin and a thick layer of sweet, juicy yellow, orange or green flesh enclosing a mass of seeds. The three principal types are cantaloupe, winter and musk.
