A perennial herb "Salvia officinalis" in the mint family, which grows worldwide. It has oblong, grey-green, almost silvery leaves with a highly aromatic, peppery flavour and aroma. It is used to flavour fatty meats such as sausage, is collected to extract its essential oil and also has various medicinal properties.
