The fruit of a plant "Physalis ixacarpa", a relative of the cape gooseberry, resembling a small, spherical, green tomato and with a papery husk. Used extensively in Mexican cuisine and in the production of salsa verde. It develops flavour when boiled and is an essential ingredient of guacamole.
